A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency of manual hoovering. Choose one that has excellent navigation, is able to sweep corners and stairs and also has a large dust bin that has to be emptied only every few times.
There are models that mop and charge on their own which can be beneficial for those with pets or kids. Many of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they are very good at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test. It may be stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.
iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is low, it returns to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.
2. IRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.
In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying, which removes a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.
We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After connecting we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households, but it also fits in well next to the table for a coffee or shelves that you can spin around like the magic device.
The V10 is powered with seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries that produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large particles and fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task at hand. It can quickly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.
This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as an clip for a wand. This is a significant improvement over previous Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's enough time to clean the typical home, but not enough to reach every area. (A second run is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up all debris types and sizes during our testing, and it frequently goes over the same areas several times to get a really thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it reach into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice touch.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top selections, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It can get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its home base.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most reasons, since it has a longer battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand and has physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on low-pile and bare floors.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a name that you see on all sorts of home electronics It's no surprise that they're also one of the most popular robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we tested, which might be a problem for certain shoppers.
